A Database-Focused Cloud Built by ServersCamp

ServersCamp is a cloud provider founded by Oleksandr. The platform is being optimized for database workloads, while also delivering strong performance for other types of applications. Reaching that goal required custom solutions and architecture, with ideas drawn heavily from enterprise infrastructure. Every VM receives the following infrastructure stack.

Visit ServersCamp to register and test the platform.

Hardware

ServersCamp currently has two hardware platforms: older first-generation Xeon Scalable systems and the latest EPYC platform. There is no middle-ground option yet, but Genoa or Milan is planned.

Network

The infrastructure uses Mellanox network cards and Mellanox switches with RDMA, eBGP and PFC. OVN handles the software side of the network.

Disks and Storage

Nodes have no local disks. All storage uses SDS, meaning replicated network storage on NVMe disks, with a default of two replicas for now. Synthetic tests delivered results of around 150–160 µs at qd1.

Backups and Disaster Recovery

ServersCamp took an enterprise-inspired approach to disaster-recovery backups. The backup system supports multiple backends: its own S3 storage in the same data center but outside SDS, Wasabi and Impossible Cloud.

Backups include encryption and can be downloaded from their storage backends. Automatic checks also verify that each backup remains usable. After every backup, the data is physically downloaded in addition to the MD5 check, and the VM is booted to confirm that it can start from the backup.

Security

ServersCamp has integrated Suricata in a way that supports zero-trust security even on a flat network. The system provides visibility into actual network activity in addition to firewall rules, with an option to block threats inline.

Inline mode can be enabled for each VM while remaining transparent to its users. Traffic analysis and interception take place at the underlay network level. Not all of this functionality is operational yet.

Redundancy and Geography

ServersCamp currently operates one site in Bucharest, Romania, in the EU. A deal with another provider is already in place, and work on a second site is under way. That new location will provide another geographic destination, very good international peering and serious anti-DDoS protection.

Benchmarks and Third-Party Tests

Live Cloud Test

The platform is ready, but benchmark results alone do not show how it behaves under live load. ServersCamp has reserved trial capacity on nodes from different hardware generations and is inviting users to test it.

  • Total capacity: 50–100 slots, depending on the load and how much the cluster can handle without overall degradation.
  • Maximum instance size: 2 cores, 4 GB RAM and a 100 GB disk.
  • Acceptable use: Do not use the trial for abuse, cryptocurrency mining or similar activity.
  • Account limit: Please do not create multiple accounts.

How to Get Started

  • Register at ServersCamp and confirm your email address.
  • Open a ticket mentioning LET or send a private message to Oleksandr in the forum. ServersCamp will manually set up your account and add €25 in credit for one month.

Account setup currently requires a card, but the manual LET setup means you do not need to add one. You will not be able to create anything until the account has been configured.

ServersCamp will also post redeem codes and updates from time to time. If you need more, open a ticket. The team is looking for feedback from real-world testing, so share your results.
